Family Fun Happening in East Cincinnati This April

Mark your calendars now to make time for these awesome activities!

By Lisa Robinson March 20, 2022

April is one of those months with crazy swings in the weather here in Cincinnati. The flowers are blooming and you can literally smell spring in the air on some sunny days. Other days, it's rainy and cold. We want to give you options for both inside and outside play on those days when the weatherman might be predicting a 30 degree swing from morning to night.

Here are 7 ways to make the most of April in East Cincinnati with your family.

1. Get your hands dirty

It's lawn and garden month! Visit Benken Florist on April 16th for their Bunny Brunch class to plant a small pot of greens that any bunny would enjoy! You will have plenty of time to catch a few photos with the Easter Bunny at this event too. While you are there, pick up what you need to get that garden growing this summer! Here are 10 benefits of gardening with kids.

2. Fool those kids :P

Keep it simple by adding googly eyes to the milk carton or find a great silly surprise at Cappel's (the locally owned craft and holiday decor store in Anderson Township) for April Fools Day on April 1st. For more ideas, read our article on 7 Silly April Fools' Day Pranks to play on Your Kids

3. Eat a grilled cheese on April 12th

It's Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! Eat the grilled cheese at the dining table OR take it outside for a quick and easy picnic meal on the lawn. Add some tunes and watch this dinner quickly turn into a family dance party!

4. Transform yourself - just like a butterfly

Spring is a season of renewal, and change. Where can you see this first-hand? The Krohn Conservatory's Butterfly Exhibit! This year's theme is Egyptian Gardens and those butterflies are friendlier than ever; so stop on by any gloomy day in April and seeing all those beautiful butterflies is sure to turn that frown upside down.

5. Find the matzoh and/or find the eggs!

Passover begins on April 15 and Easter is April 17. Check-out the Macaroni KID Event Calendar to find community events for whichever spring holiday your family celebrates. We've got a Passover themed scavenger hunt at the Mayerson JCC and many Easter egg hunts in the area.

6. Celebrate the Earth

April 22 is Earth Day. Mark the occasion by taking part in this Earth Day Celebration at an Anderson Township Park or give back to Mother Earth by cleaning up your local park, planting a tree, and recycling.

7. Look up to the sky

Did you know April is one of the best months of the year to look up to the skies and watch meteor showers? Watch the Lyrid meteor showers late evening until moonrise April 15-29. The peak is expected around April 22.  Join a group called the Stonelick Stargazers on certain nights of April for their free and open to the public "Star Party" where you can view the stars using their equipment. If you have kids fascinated by the stars, make sure to visit the NKU Planetarium on Friday nights in April for their free 1-hr show to encourage that interest!
